frequently asked questions
Everything you wanted to know about Men at Arms. And a few things you probably didn't.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO MAKE ONE?
A couple of weeks of sketching, experimenting, 3D modelling and figuring things out. And plenty of failed attempts. Each soldier then takes almost three hours to 3D print. Turns out, even tiny acts of kindness take time.
HOW MANY DESIGNS ARE THERE?
I've explored quite a few designs, but for now, we're starting with THE HUG. There are different iterations of the pose, so yours might look slightly different from someone else's. Some have more battle scars. Some might even be missing a limb. That's intentional. Because battles don't look the same for everyone. And neither does showing up for someone. Perfectly imperfect. Just like us.
HOW BIG ARE THEY?
Approximately 12cm tall. Small enough for your desk. Big enough to make a point.
WILL THERE BE MORE POSES AND SIZES?
That's the hope! I've already explored a whole little army of different poses, each celebrating a different way men can show up for one another. If there's enough love and support for this first release, I'd love to bring more to life. Maybe even some tiny ones. World domination, but make it emotionally available.
I DON'T LIVE IN LONDON OR THE UK. CAN I STILL GET ONE?
Possibly! I'd love for this little army to travel beyond the UK. As this is my first adventure into shipping things internationally, I'm still figuring out the logistics and costs. Drop me a message and let's see what we can work out.
CAN I REQUEST A CUSTOM SIZE?
Let's chat! If it's something my printer, my skills and my available time can handle, I'd love to explore it. No promises, but always happy to hear an idea.
HOW MUCH OF THE PROFITS ACTUALLY GOES TO CALM?
All of it. Every penny of the proceeds. I'm not taking a fee for the designs, the intellectual property, the hours spent modelling, materials, printing or packing. This isn't a business. It's a personal project made with love, in memory of my friend Joe, to raise money for CALM. The only separate charge is £5 for shipping and handling in the UK.
HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE BEHIND MEN AT ARMS?
One. Hello, it's me, Dillah. I'm the person behind the idea, sketches, 3D models, printing, website, packing, logistics, emails and probably the occasional existential crisis when a print fails after two hours. It's a one-woman army making an army of emotionally available men. So please bear with me if things take a little longer. I promise I'll do my best to get back to you.
THERE ARE LOTS OF WAYS TO RAISE MONEY FOR CALM. WHY THIS?
Well, I don't run. I mean, I can. But my knees have filed several formal complaints. What I do love is art, making things and geeking out over technology. After losing someone I love, making art became one of the ways I found my way through grief. So I thought, if I could turn something that helped me into something that might help someone else, while raising money for a cause that matters deeply to me, why wouldn't I? And perhaps, along the way, remind a few people that strength isn't always about fighting. Sometimes, it's about holding someone together.
